Student committees

  • Student committees - General information

    Student committees - General information

The student committees are elected exclusively by the student body (including you!) and represent your interests at and towards the university.

The student committees as a whole fulfill the following tasks:

    •     Representation and statement of the student body in relation to all university policy matters
    •     Promotion of political education
    •     Representing the economic and social interests of students
    •     Enabling students to use public transportation at a reasonable price
    •     Promotion of university sports
    •     Quality assurance of teaching
    •     Organizing events for the student body

What does that mean in plain language?

In recent years, the commitment of the student committees has made many things possible that enrich life on campus and strengthen diversity. Among other things, it has been possible to realize

    •     the introduction of the Schleswig-Holstein and nowadays, the nationwide semester ticket
    •     the hardship committee to relieve financially challenged students
    •     quality assurance of teaching through the evaluation and implementation of teaching evaluations with lecturers
    •     the Campus Open Air Lübeck (COAL)
    •     the freshmen week
    •     the reading week
    •     the Winter Ball
    •     the Chillen & Grillen
    •     the house cup (Hauspokal)
    •     ...and much more!

The student committees are structured as follows.

  • Students parliament (StuPa)

    Students parliament (StuPa)

This is the board for you if you want to stay up to date. What is happening on and behind the scenes on campus or when will it happen? You will also decide on the student body budget and decide on the funding of student groups and events, such as COAL, Reading Week or Freshmen-Week. Far-reaching decisions, such as the introduction of the state- or nation-wide semester ticket, are also made by the StuPa as the legislative body of the student body.

The StuPa also appoints committees from among its members to deal with issues such as helping students in difficult financial situations or improving the student experience on campus.

The meetings take place every three weeks during the semester on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. sharp.

If you are interested in parliamentary work with snacks, drinks and a relaxed atmosphere, then let us nominate you as a candidate for the StuPa!

University committees

  • University committees - General information

    University committees - General information

In addition to the student committees, there are also some important university committees. In addition to professors and employees, student representatives also sit on these committees.

One of the highest and most important bodies at our university is the Senate. It reflects at university level what the StuPa represents on the student side.

The Senate committees are subordinate to the Senate and carry out its activities at a smaller level. They usually discuss the same matters and prepare Senate resolutions.

The Foundation Board is also one of the university's most important bodies and decides on the budget, among other things.

  • Senate

    Senate

The Senate of the University of Lübeck is part of its self-administration. The Senate is involved in all important decisions on personnel matters (appointments, nominations, etc.), the university's statutes and regulations, as well as many others. Reports from the various institutes and clinics, the individual staff units and the Presidential Board are presented at the meetings. The Senate takes a position on university issues and has far-reaching powers in many decisions.

Four students and their respective deputies are elected to the Senate by the university's students. They have full voting rights, a fixed agenda item and are therefore equal members of the Senate.

  • Senate committees

    Senate committees

In order to work more effectively, the Senate delegates some tasks to committees.

Two important committees are directly elected by the university's eligible voters.

These are the Senate Committee on Medicine (SAM) and the Senate Committee MINT (SAMINT). They represent the Medical Section and the MINT Section (Mathematical, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Technology) respectively.

The Senate Committees SAM and SAMINT serve to prepare the resolutions of the Senate. Appointment committees and the resulting lists of proposals for vacant professorships as well as drafts of new degree program regulations are developed and voted on in these committees. Four students with voting rights sit on each of the Senate committees, each of whom must have a deputy.

  • Foundation Board

    Foundation Board

The Foundation Board of the University of Lübeck...

    •     is composed of external and internal members
    •     is the highest body of the University
    •     decides on the budget and the structure and development plan
    •     decides on new buildings/extensions
    •     meets in non-public sessions

Members can be found on the University's Foundation Board page.
